Die Verantwortlichen von Barrick Gold (NYE.ABX) arbeiten mit Hochdruck an einer konstruktiven Lösung für das milliardenschwere "Problem-Projekt" Pascua Lama. Nach den Finanzergebnissen für Q1 2013 wurden neben den möglichen Strategieänderungen bei Pascua Lama auch potentielle Segmente/Projekte genannt, die zum Verkauf stehen. Mit dem eingenommenen Geld plant Barrick u.a. die Konzernverschuldung zu verringern, die in den letzten Jahren, parallel zu den Kosten, förmlich explodiert ist.
Barrick ponders suspending Pascua Lama Project permanently
Barrick officials say the company is in serious discussions to sell Barrick Energy and maybe the Kabanga nickel joint venture project in Tanzania.
Barrick Gold is considering suspending the Pascua Lama project or developing a smaller pit on the Argentinian side of the project, among other options, Barrick officials announced Wednesday.
“At Pascua Lama, we are working to address the environmental and other regulatory requirements on the Chilean side of the project,” said Barrick CEO Jamie Sokalsky. “Concurrently, we are taking hard look at evaluating all alternatives in light of uncertainties associated with the suspension of construction in Chile..”
