Junior-Sektor: Finanzierungen gewinnen Anfang 2014 deutlich an Fahrt

Anfang des neuen Jahres fließen wieder bedeutende Summen an Risiko-Kapital in den Junior-Sektor und die Finanzierungs-Volumina ziehen so kräftig an, wie seit langer Zeit nicht mehr - ein positives Zeichen:

Junior financings surge in January
We take a closer look at the value and number of financings to hit the street in January showing a surge in paper.

The latest tallies of junior financings year-to-date in January put the first month of the year on pace to equal all financings in the fourth quarter 2013.
In a recent research for its clients, Canaccord counted 144 equity financings over C$250,000 worth a total C$480 million in January versus C$410 million in 180 financings in the fourth quarter 2013. About a third of the January financings had closed, Canaccord noted.
Much of the January surge in terms of value stems from three multi-million bought-deals: Torex Gold ~C$125 million, Timmins Gold ~C$25 million and True Gold ~C$36 million.
In the final talk of the recent Roundup conference in Vancouver, PI analyst Jim Mustard pointed to similar figures as a positive sign for the junior market.
"That's a significant start to the year," Mustard said. "Maybe it's the January effect. I don't know. I hope it establishes a trend."
Mustard went on to say that "a lot of the statistics that confront us now point to an improved market" for juniors, including the pickup in financings and the depth that the Venture Index had fallen.
In most down cycles Mustard said the Venture (and its predecessor exchanges) fell off about 60 to 70 percent in a three year period. As it stands he noted the Venture was off about 65 percent from its peak in early 2011.
"That shouldn't surprise anybody," he said, adding the juniors were "better for it" becoming leaner, more strategic and cost effective in exploration through the down cycles.
Meantime, the Association of Mineral Exploration British Columbia, which puts on the Roundup conference, tallied the number of attendees at the 2014 event: 6,600. That's down from about 15 percent from 7,800 last year.
