Excelsior Mining Corp. (TSX-V: MIN) (FSE: 3XS) (OTCQX: EXMGF) ("Excelsior" or the “Company”) is pleased to announce the immediate appointment of Robert Washnock to the position of Project Manager for the Gunnison Copper Project in Arizona. Mr. Washnock will work with Excelsior’s management team to help plan and organize all aspects of the Gunnison Copper Project, including mine design, procurement, construction, start-up and commissioning; he will also assist management with the care and maintenance operations at the Johnson Camp Mine (JCM). He has direct experience with in-situ copper recovery mining, and his hiring comes as Excelsior prepares for the anticipated commencement of commercial production in 2018.
Mr. Washnock brings a wealth of copper mining experience specific to all aspects of mine production management. He has extensive expertise in the areas of solvent extraction electrowinning (SX-EW) plant operations, electrorefining, electro-metallurgy/chemistry, copper leach kinetics and environmental regulatory compliance. The vast majority of his 40-year career has centered on SX-EW copper recovery projects in Arizona.
Mr. Washnock has held managerial positions with Freeport McMoRan Mining Company since 2008. Most recently, he was the Manager of Leach Optimization at the Safford Technology Center, with primary emphasis on the Safford Mine and Morenci Mine leach operations. From 2009 to 2012, he was the Manager of the Hydrometallurgical Division at Freeport McMoRan’s Bagdad SX-EW facilities, where he was responsible for the production of high-grade copper cathode. From 2008-2009 he was responsible for high-grade cathode production at Freeport McMoRan’s Tyrone Operations. As General Manager for the Lisbon Valley Mining Company, from 2004-2008, he successfully developed, designed, constructed and started-up a greenfields SX-EW copper operation. From 1996 to 2004 he was the SX-EW Operations Manager for the Silver Bell Solvent Extraction Electrowinning Project.
From 1991 to 1994 he was the Manager of Leaching & SX-EW Operations for Magma Copper Company’s Pinto Valley Mining Division. In this role he was responsible for the production of high-grade cathode, including copper recovery from in-situ leaching operations.

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - February 09, 2016) - Excelsior Mining Corp. (TSX VENTURE: MIN) (FRANKFURT : 3XS) (OTCQX : EXMGF) ("Excelsior" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the results of a comprehensive Updated Prefeasibility Study ("Updated PFS") on the North Star Deposit of the Gunnison Copper Project, located in Cochise County, southeastern Arizona. The project is designed as a copper in-situ recovery ("ISR") mine using solvent extraction-electrowinning ("SX-EW"). The Updated PFS was completed as a result of the recent acquisition of the Johnson Camp Mine ("JCM") and staged production approach which have dramatically lowered initial capital costs to $45.9 million. Excelsior has also made progress on its permitting process and an update is included below in this news release.
Updated Prefeasibility Study Results
Highlights of the North Star Gunnison Copper Project Updated PFS (United States dollars)
- Net Present Value ("NPV") of $1.2 billion pre-tax and $829 million post-tax
- at 7.5% discount rate using a life of mine ("LOM") copper price of $2.75/lb;
- Internal Rate of Return ("IRR") of 57.9% pre-tax and 45.8% post-tax;
- Initial construction capital costs of $45.9 million
- includes 20% contingency, 16% EPCM, freight, mobile equipment, owner's costs and capital spares;
- Payback period for initial capital of 1.8 years pre-tax and 2.6 years post-tax;
- Average life-of-mine operating costs of $0.70/lb;
- All-In Cost (all capital plus operating costs) of $1.24/lb;
- Sensitivity analysis at a LOM copper price of $2.00/lb generates an IRR of 30.8% pre-tax and 26.2% post-tax.
- Over 850 million pounds of copper added to the probable mineral reserve, an increase of 24%;
- Mine life of 27 years;
- Staged production profile: initial production rate of 25 million pounds of copper cathode per annum using the existing JCM facilities, followed by an intermediate expansion stage to 75 million pounds per annum and final expansion stage to full production of 125 million pounds per annum (includes the construction of an acid plant at full production). The staged production profile makes possible the funding of future expansions out of cash flow;
- Staged production approach lowers initial capital costs, reduces financing risk and speeds the timeline to first production.

Excelsior Mining Corp. (TSX-V: MIN) (Frankfurt: 3XS) (OTCQX: EXMGF) ("Excelsior" or the “Company”) is pleased to announce comprehensive hydrological results for the Gunnison Copper Project in Arizona (“Gunnison Project”). The results generated hydrological conductivities in the range expected for typical fracture controlled deposits and show the deposit is suitable for in-situ recovery (“ISR”) operations. These results will be incorporated into a full Feasibility Study scheduled for completion in 2016.
Commenting on these results, President and CEO Stephen Twyerould said, “The successful completion of the hydrology test program is a major milestone in the advancement of our Gunnison Copper Project. The favourable results once again demonstrate the potential to extract this significant deposit using economically superior and environmentally friendly in-situ mining.”
A total of 32 hydrology wells were laid out over the North Star deposit of the Gunnison Project and its surroundings. These wells targeted a variety of fractured zones, rock types and mineralized areas. Twenty-seven of the 32 wells were hydraulically tested and the remaining five served as observation wells. An additional 21 core holes from previous drilling programs were used as water level observations to provide a radial distribution of observation bores to each of the tested wells..

Metallurgical Fracture Simulation Tests Validate Prefeasibility Results
Excelsior Mining Corp. (TSX-V: MIN) (Frankfurt: 3XS) (OTCQX: EXMGF) ("Excelsior" or the “Company”) is pleased to announce final metallurgical results for the Gunnison Copper Project in Arizona. These comprehensive results will be incorporated into a full Feasibility Study scheduled for completion in 2016.
The final results from ten fracture simulation box tests can be found in Table 1 below. Results indicate that copper leaches rapidly and relatively uniformly across all rock types.
Forward modelling of the recovery time curves and acid consumption curves (see graphs) indicate average acid consumption at 100% acid soluble copper recovery (approximately 70% total copper recovery), would be in the range of 8 to 10 pounds of acid consumed for every pound of copper cathode produced. This is consistent with the previously reported Prefeasibility Study that used approximately 8.1 pounds of acid consumed for every pound of copper cathode produced.
Commenting on these results, Stephen Twyerould, President and C.E.O. said, “These results are completely in-line with the results from our 2014 Prefeasibility Study and fully support the industry leading economics that define our Gunnison Copper Project. XIAMEN, CHINA--(Marketwired - May 26, 2015) - Robert Friedland, Executive Chairman of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN), and Lars-Eric Johansson, Chief Executive Officer, announced today that Ivanhoe and Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd. have agreed to a strategic co-development of the Kamoa copper discovery in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Under terms of agreements signed in Xiamen, Zijin - through its subsidiary, Gold Mountains (H.K.) International Mining Company Limited - will buy a 49.5% share interest in Kamoa Holding Limited (Kamoa Holding), an Ivanhoe subsidiary that presently owns 95% of the Kamoa Project, for an aggregate consideration of US$412 million (approximately C$506 million).
The purchase price will be satisfied by an initial payment of US$206 million in cash upon the closing of the transaction, which is expected on or about July 31, 2015, and is subject to Zijin's receipt of approvals by the government of the People's Republic of China, and certain other customary closing conditions.
The agreements specify that the remaining US$206 million will be paid in five equal installments, payable every 3.5 months from closing and continuing through the remainder of 2015 and into 2016..

Preliminary Metallurgical Tests Fully Consistent with Prefeasibility Results

Mining Corp. (TSX-V: MIN) (Frankfurt: 3XS) (OTCQX: EXMGF)
("Excelsior" or the “Company”) is pleased to announce interim results from
ten “fracture simulation” leach tests at the Gunnison Copper Project in
Arizona.
The
tests demonstrate copper recovery from the fractured rocks occurs rapidly and
relatively uniformly across all rock types. The tests have also allowed for
detailed and quantitative acid consumption measurements. To date, the results
of recovery and acid consumption are entirely consistent with the metallurgical
parameters used in the 2014 Prefeasibility Study (PFS).
On
September 15, 2014, Excelsior announced that it had commenced a metallurgical
drilling and testing program at the Gunnison Copper Project. The drilling
program consisted of ten (10) diamond-drill holes totalling 5,899 feet (11,306
feet in total drilling). The drilling program generated new samples,
representing a variety of structures and rock types, which were then submitted
for extensive metallurgical testing. The results of the metallurgical tests
will be used to determine copper extraction rates, acid consumption rates, and
rinsing procedures and rates. Results will be used for both the permit
application process and the Feasibility Study.
A total
of ten “fracture simulation” leach tests have been ongoing as part of the
metallurgical program. Fracture simulation boxes #1 and #2 have been completed
after 199 and 166 days of respective leaching. Box #3 is still leaching after
170 days and the remaining seven boxes have been leaching for approximately 80
days. Highlights of the preliminary results are set out in Table 1 below.
Commenting
on these results, Stephen Twyerould, President and C.E.O. said, “The fracture
simulation boxes offer us the best lab-scale testing of expected underground
leach conditions to date. We are pleased to see that across all rock types, these
initial results mirror the industry-leading outcomes from our 2014
Prefeasibility Study in terms of acid consumption and copper recoveries. Once
again, Excelsior has returned results that highlight the viability of an
in-situ recovery operation at Gunnison.”

-- Freeport-McMoRan Inc. halted production at Grasberg, the world’s
second-largest copper mine by capacity, as workers blocked access to a road to
the mine in Indonesia for a fourth day. The price of the metal climbed in
London.
Freeport
will continue talks with the workers to resolve the blockade, Daisy Primayanti,
spokeswoman at PT Freeport Indonesia, said in a mobile phone text message on
Thursday. The company suspended output starting Monday, while concentrate
shipments remain unaffected from old stockpiles, said Juli Parorrongan, a
spokesman for Freeport Indonesia workers’ union.
The blockade
by about 50 workers wasn’t organized by the union and it isn’t aware of the
workers demand or the reason for the roadblock, Parorrongan said. The striking
workers from seven tribes in Papua are seeking promotion as incentives for not
participating in a labor dispute last year, Kompas.com reported on March 16.
“We
appreciate the workers’ rights to express their opinions,” Parorrongan said. “But
we hope all issues can be appropriately addressed without harming the company.”
Copper for
delivery in three months climbed as much as 2.8 percent to $5,830 a metric ton
on the London Metal Exchange.
Freeport
shares tumbled as much as 6.3 percent, the biggest intraday drop in seven
weeks. They closed 5.3 percent lower at $17.26 in New York.
Operations
at Grasberg in the mountainous region of Papua have been plagued by labor
strife in recent years. The mine saw a strike in 2011 as workers sought higher wages
and was closed for months following a tunnel collapse in 2013 that killed 28
workers. Exports were disrupted last year after a dispute with the Indonesian
government over export duties.
Primayanti
had said on Wednesday that the impact from the roadblock to mine operations was
insignificant.

TORONTO, CANADA — Robert Friedland, Executive Chairman of Ivanhoe Mines (TSX: IVN), and Lars-Eric Johansson, Chief Executive Officer, announced today that members of the Ivanhoe Mines exploration team have received the prestigious Thayer Lindsley Award from the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) for the discovery of the Kamoa Copper Deposit in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Thayer Lindsley International Discovery Award, which is presented annually by the PDAC, recognizes an individual or a team of explorationists credited with a recent significant mineral discovery or series of discoveries anywhere in the world.
The award honours the memory of Thayer Lindsley, who was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 1989 and was one of the most accomplished mine finders of the past century. Throughout Mr. Lindsley's long and extraordinary career, he either founded or was involved in the development of many famous Canadian mining companies, including Falconbridge, Sherritt Gordon, Frobisher, Giant Yellowknife, Canadian Malartic and United Keno Hill.
